Stenströms

Stenströms is a Swedish shirtmaker with more than a century of history behind the brand. Its story began in Helsingborg, where tailor August Stenström established his retail business in 1883 and produced shirts for his customers by hand. Growing demand eventually led to the establishment of the first Stenströms shirt factory in 1899.

The company expanded quickly during the early twentieth century. By 1912, Stenströms had become Scandinavia’s largest shirt factory, employing around 140 people. Helsingborg’s position as an important port city also helped introduce the company’s shirts to customers outside Sweden, contributing to its early international growth.

Shirtmaking has remained at the center of Stenströms ever since. The brand developed its reputation around carefully selected fabrics, well-balanced proportions and precise construction, combining traditional tailoring principles with a distinctly Scandinavian approach to design.

In 1962, Stenströms became a Royal Court Supplier to the Swedish king, reflecting the reputation the company had established for quality and craftsmanship. The brand has continued to develop while maintaining the shirtmaking tradition on which it was founded.

Fabric selection is an important part of the Stenströms identity. Fine cotton twill, poplin, Oxford, linen and other carefully chosen materials are used to create shirts with different textures, weights and levels of formality. Attention is also given to collars, cuffs, buttons and finishing details that influence both the appearance and comfort of each shirt.

While shirts remain the foundation of Stenströms, the brand has gradually expanded into a broader men’s wardrobe. Its approach to fabric, fit and understated design can now also be found across knitwear and other clothing.
