Heschung

Heschung is a family shoemaker founded by Eugène Heschung in Steinbourg, northern Alsace, in 1934. The original workshop produced robust work shoes and hiking boots using traditional Norwegian and Goodyear welt construction, techniques that remain central to the identity of the brand.

The company’s development was closely connected to the landscape and climate of the nearby Vosges Mountains. During the middle of the twentieth century, Heschung applied its construction expertise to leather ski boots, strengthening its reputation for footwear designed to withstand demanding conditions. Later generations carried this practical knowledge into collections intended for everyday city and country wear.

Norwegian welt construction is one of Heschung’s most recognizable characteristics. Its visible stitching contributes to the substantial appearance of many of the brand’s boots and derby shoes while providing durability, water resistance and the possibility of resoling. Goodyear welt construction offers similar long-term practicality with a cleaner profile suited to more refined footwear.

Repairability and long-term wear remain important parts of Heschung’s approach. Traditional construction allows worn soles to be replaced, while carefully selected leathers, rubber and natural-gum soles are chosen to develop character through regular use rather than being treated as disposable materials.
